What is colon hydrotherapy

Colon hydrotherapy is a safe and effective method of cleansing the bowel by repeated, gentle flushing of warm water.  It was used in hospitals until quite recently to cleanse the bowel before bowel procedures but costs were an issue and strong purgatives are now used in its place.  Colon hydrotherapy will leave you feeling clean on the inside which makes you feel better on the outside.

Benefits

· Weight loss programmes

· Cleansing regimes

Why we all need a colonic!

The typical Western diet is dreadful and because the human brain has evolved much faster than the gut, we ingest foods and chemicals that can over-tax the digestive system.  Eventually we take in more toxins than we can eliminate and the colon becomes impacted with faeces, dead cellular tissue and accumulated mucous which provides a breeding ground for worms, fungus and parasites.  Toxicity sets in and the resulting poisons can circulate the blood stream causing all sorts of problems from tiredness to extreme disease.  Impacted materials also impair the colon’s ability to work properly and constipation can result.  Colonics help gently remove these toxins enabling the main organs of elimination to work more efficiently, making you feel better.  Colonics are a particularly good idea when travelling to foreign countries (see Q&A page).

What Makes A Colonic At Inside Health Works Different?

There aren’t many qualified colon hydrotherapists out there who are also nutritional therapists, but that is exactly what IHW has to offer.  Not only do you get a great colonic, but the therapist is also qualified to offer advice on good nutritional practice and supplements.  This should not be confused with a nutritional therapy consultation which is a much more in depth session and focuses on nutritional therapy only.

Being accepted as a member of the Association and Register of Colon Hydrotherapists really says it all, (please check out the ARCH web site) but to have also been trained by these people shows that the therapist is reputable and competent.  As a condition of membership, therapists are required to attend courses throughout the year to keep up-to-date with the latest colonic hydrotherapy information.  ARCH is lobbying hard to become the regulatory body in the UK for colonics and ensures that all would-be hydrotherapists have a background in another therapy before they are allowed to be trained in colonics.

Why Inside Health Works believes in colon hydrotherapy

Most of us are walking around in a state of toxic overload and it is Inside Health Works belief that the majority of people in Britain who have been raised on a typical western diet would benefit from colon hydrotherapy.  Beware of those people who have never had the experience of a colonic themselves, yet also try and dissuade you – what do they know?

Denise King, the founder of Inside Health Works should know.  Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 43, she embarked on an incredible journey of self discovery while learning to be a Nutritional Therapist at the College of Natural and Complementary Medicine.  Her background in nutritional therapy was accepted as a prerequisite for the post-graduate colon hydrotherapy course run by the National College of Colon Hydrotherapy and she is now a member of ARCH.  As part of her training she was required to attend a separate colonic massage course and is now fully qualified in this also.  Denise trained at Harley Street with Milo Siewert and worked for 6 months with Tracey Dell at The Clinic in Northampton before forming Inside Health Works.

In her own words:

During my 3 years at college I met some amazing people, some of whom introduced me to colon hydrotherapy.  I had always been somewhat sceptical, especially after hearing how Lady Diana had become involved with it and at that point had dismissed it as a passing fad!  Thankfully, I was persuaded to try it after talking to a colonic hydrotherapist at college, although I hasten to add, many people outside of college did there best to dissuade me!  This particular hydrotherapist had seen it help many people with MS so with nothing to lose, except, perhaps my dignity (which I didn’t) I haven’t looked back since.  It really made a difference to my health, and I instantly understood the benefits it could offer other people.  When the opportunity arose to attend a course run by ARCH, I jumped at the chance.  The course was interesting and thorough and really drove it home that both colon hydrotherapy and good nutrition are essential to total well-being.

I was most impressed with the course lecturers – Drs Roger Groos and Milo Siewert, both revered practitioners in their own right.  Indeed, it was Dr Siewert who, in 1987 popularised Colonic Hydrotherapy in Britain and is one of the UK’s leading lights in this field.  ARCH is an extremely reputable association as shown by the policies and stringent screening of all members and as a hydrotherapist I felt it was crucial to join because their code of ethics ensures that my practice is run to the highest standards possible.  ARCH is a well-respected body and I am proud to be registered on their web site.

As part of her nutritional therapy studies, Denise was taught extensively about cleansing and detoxification techniques and through personal experience feels that they were absolutely essential in setting her on the road to recovery.  Always practising what she preaches, she still finds it beneficial to regularly detoxify using clay, herbs and colonics and has just completed her third liver flush (check out the picture).

The combination of her colon hydrotherapy training, nutritional knowledge and personal experience of a frightening disease has left her well equipped to help people not only get to the root of their ailments, but to also understand why they became ill, which she believes is an integral part of the healing process.

The Inside Health Works Treatment Room

The treatment room is exactly that – a dedicated treatment room with an ensuite toilet, so once you have completed your treatment you are left to sit on the loo in peace.  The room has just been completely refurbished and has also been inspected by a member of ARCH to ensure that it conforms to their very high standards.

What the Treatment Involves

Once your appointment is booked, you will be sent a medical questionnaire which you should complete and bring with you on the day of your colonic.  Your therapist will then go through the information with you prior to your treatment and explain the procedure (if it is your first one), you will also be given nutritional guidance.  After changing (your modesty is completely preserved behind a fresh laundered towel), it is then just a matter of leaving yourself in the therapist’s competent hands.  All you have to do is lie on a comfortable massage bed and relax.

Filtered, warm water is gently washed in and out of the bowels to clean out waste – the whole process is totally hygienic and the waste travels through a small tube, disappearing through a pipe in the wall straight into the waste system (exactly the same as a toilet).  Massage techniques are used to stimulate the bowel and help move the waste along and herbs may be used in those rare cases where not much waste is passed during the session.  Some people find the experience so soothing, that they have fallen asleep!  You will probably still feel the need to go to the loo once the treatment has finished.  This is completely natural and just shows that you are releasing a lot of waste, which is the whole point.

Please refer to the Q & A sessions on this web site for any concerns you may have.  If you still don’t have enough information, then give us a call on 01908 318980 or 07944 176544

Whether you see a therapist from IHW or anywhere else, always ensure that they are reputable and carry the correct qualifications for the work they do.
